Different Parts of Fascias Explained
Fascia – The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia is directly fixed to the lower ends of the roof trusses and does a lot of the work supporting the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles. Your fascia board also carries all the guttering. This is quite impressive, especially during heavy rain as, for example, a downpour on a three-bedroom semi-detached home could wash several gallons of water per second into your gutters.
Bargeboard – This is the board used on the gable end of a home. A bargeboard’s condition can often make or break the look of your home as its shape can evolve into very attractive shapes.
Soffit – The soffit board will be tucked away under the fascia board and is usually the board that is visible from street level. Soffits can be ventilated, which allows the flow of air into the roof area. Alternatively, ventilation can be provided over the top of the fascia board. Without sufficient ventilation, condensation forms in the roof void which increases the risk of timber decay.
Box End – The Box End accommodates many different angles, planes and heights of the fascia, soffit and bargeboard at every corner of the home where there is a gable end.
